POKOTABI / Ahiru sweets
あひる菓子店
From peach piled high on shaved ice to silky homemade pudding and seasonal shortcake, Ahiru sweets offers a choice of coffee and tea to go with its treats.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
One visitor recalls sharing the peach shaved ice and finding it generously topped with fruit. The menu describes layers of peach syrup, compote and sauce with fresh white peach, finished with condensed milk from Daisen. You can add homemade milk gelato, too; it makes a tempting extra for anyone keen to savour peach in every form.
For something cake-like, the homemade pudding is made with vanilla from Indonesia and set to a softness that is just firm enough to come out of its mould. One diner remarked that it was softer than expected. Smooth and served with pleasantly bittersweet caramel, it makes a good afternoon treat with coffee or a hojicha latte.
Seasonal shortcake, made with fruit at its best, is a popular staple. A visitor who chose the pear cake remembered the fruit’s crisp texture and the light whipped cream. For a bake to take centre stage, there is also a scone made with Hokkaido wholemeal flour and Yotsuba butter. It has a crisp bite, a moist centre and a hint of sweetness; enjoy it plain or with your preferred jam. Drinks include the rich, medium-roast Ahiru Blend, as well as teas that change with the season and the sweets on offer.
